Hey, we’re making some fundamental changes to the The VFD Collective and it’s website. It’s important to us that we keep you up to date.
The VFD Collective Store & TheVFDCollective.com
Most importantly, we’ve moved The VFD Collective Store. The VFD Collective clocks are carefully hand crafted and very well deserve a platform that highlight their uniqueness. That’s why from the beginning of November 2019, products by The VFD Collective can be purchased from our Etsy shop, TheVFDCollective.
TheVFDCollective.com has just become prettier, huh? We’ll keep expanding in what we do, and you’ll now find different columns of blog posts together with what’s The VFD Collective is known best for: Free and open resources for makers (yay, there are more resources on the way).
For now there are two new columns, and there won’t be just two:
#WanderAndListen: Wander & Listen is the new blog post series where a themed (Spotify) will be put in the spotlight and a travel journal is added along. Of course, the travel journal won’t just be a journal, but comes with valuable things to know and just the right amount of guidance
#FeedInspo: The feed inspo rubric is where pictures from a color palette is presented in a 9x9 grid, just like you would find on Instagram. As always, a little story is told
Want to showcase your themed playlist, travel journal or insta feed? Or do you have a sparkling idea? Tag #TheVFDCollective or #CreateWithVFDCo to be featured. We’ll DM you!
What’s coming next to Fluorescence?
“earlier this year, when i was walking down the norðurströnd coast in reykjavík, in the dark, for miles, i eventually stopped and saw a green-ish, fluorescent cloud in the far away sky. it was pretty weak, i thought let’s just try to see what’s going on with my big camera. i did not know what i was about to see that night, in that glory. nothing i could capture with my poor camera skills. soon the night started to dance and breath fire into the sky, untamed, wildly and fearlessly. but kept close as i was the only one walking. nordlichter. and i started to dance, and jump wildly like i was a little kid. blood rushing and soul healing at the same time, heart warming and freezing cold at the same time. the coldest green i’ve seen. i tightened my backpack, one step closer to me. once again it reminded me of how small we are. and our problems and worries and fears and insecurities even smaller. oops, now i’ve missed my bus home. the last one for tonight. okay, let’s walk, i said, feeling energetic like never before.” - excerpt from my diary
Inspired by the northern lights, I tried to recreate the colors on the Night Edition of Fluorescence. Dynamically. I thought of a majestic dancing interplay between the colors of the northern lights, full of live and spirit. I’m not one hundred percent in love with how the colors turned out, but hey, it will surely be ready by the time I roll out the next update.
What else is coming?
Static presets will be fully customizable. Preset is not your cup of tea? Not a problem, let’s just get rid of it. Enjoy your own color creation you just figured out on the color wheel? Add and keep it with the static presets!
Shuffle! Feelin' indecisive or perfectly lazy? Let Fluorescence shuffle through static and dynamic presets all by itself, whatever it wants. But you’ll like it!
Real talk: The firmware of Fluorescence is becoming more modular. That’s a great thing, because not only it makes shuffling possible, but also it means that it will be easier to tear the firmware apart - easier to dive in, or easier to add your own bit of awesomeness to the firmware. More precisely, with the next update, we’ll start with the LED Routine, (have a look HERE in case you want to know what it is), that will now be modular and kept in separate files, namely LED.h/LED.c. Our aim is to become platform independent, and we’ll start small!
We’ve Moved, too!
Hello Constance! The VFD Collective HQ has moved to Constance, the very south of Germany, only a few miles away from Switzerland. While we promise to keep the Berlin colorfulness (and hipsterness huh?) inside of us, we are excited for the inspiration that our new place offers: A magnificently large blue lake, mountains with altitude and lots of trees & outdoors.
“Heartwarming tunes of a cozy autumn Sunday morning in your favorite coffee house that make you feel like you are on an adventure with your best friends far far away from home.”
This blog post is part of the Wander & Listen by VFDCo blog post series where I write little guides of magical places I have traveled to, while sharing a perfectly mood-matched Spotify playlist. This time, I’ve visited three places in the Swiss Alps - two lakes and one hiking trail in fall, accompanied by my Fall Campfire playlist.
